Not long now until Christmas Day – just 21 sleeps! and our young boys are so excited! Are you prepared for Christmas yet or do you like a last minute adrenaline rush!??
Preparing for Christmas can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people …. decorating the tree, travelling home, flying away!, gathering in the Christmas food, buying clothes for Christmas parties, alcohol and hang overs, hair cuts & nails polished, Christmas jumpers, buying the presents, wrapping up the presents! – leaving it all to the wife!! Ha ha!!
With all the festive fun & frivolity to distract us, can it be all too easy to miss preparing for Christmas as we really should?
We are approaching the second Sunday in Advent – a time when Christians prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas – the birth of our Lord Jesus – something in this day & age that very sadly is often overshadowed by the commercial side of Christmas that we have all come to know and love!
From even before time began, God had set out a plan in preparing the way for Jesus’ birth – it’s all there for us to read in the bible. God is always prepared, He is obviously never taken by surprise as He is all knowing and in control of all things! God likes us to be prepared in life – it’s our responsibility to prepare – not ours to plan out our lives but to be prepared for the plans – His plans – there is a big difference!
It would be a challenge for us all this year to take a step back and look at what we are actually preparing for this Christmas …. is it just for 25th December and all the trimmings that come with it? or can we use the rest of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas – the birth of Our Saviour whose life and death has given us freedom from all sin and life eternal – Praise God! Let’s not forget Jesus this Christmas – praise God that He never forgets us!
