Good morning everyone: Lord, thank You for this new day. Please help us to follow Your plans that are perfect, give us strength to stand firm against the enemy, that all we do and say brings glory to Your holy name. Amen
JONAH 1:1-3
(The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai. Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarnish. He bought a ticket and went out on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarnish.)
God had a plan for Jonah, to give his message to the people of Nineveh – but Jonah was scared of how they would react and decided to run. He boarded a ship, but was soon to wish he hadn’t as God caused a storm which threatened to destroy the ship and all that was on board. When the crew realised that Jonah’s God, who created the land and sea caused the storm because of Jonah, they prayed to Jonah’s God, pleading that God wouldn’t kill them because of Jonah’s sin and that God wouldn’t hold them responsible for Jonah’s death and then threw Jonah into the sea! The storm stopped immediately and the crew was awestruck by God’s power. (JONAH 1:4-16)
JONAH 1:16-17
(The sailors were awestruck by the Lord’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him. Now the Lord had arranged for a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.)
God was clearly angry with Noah but didn’t give up on him, he used the fish to keep Jonah from drowning and used Jonah’s disobedience to save the sailors that they would turn to God and serve.
JONAH 2:10-3:2
(Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach. Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time. “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”)
Can you imagine how Jonah felt? After going through all that, spat out onto the beach and God sent him to go to Nineveh to give the message. He didn’t disobey God the second time! Just like Jonah, you can’t change God’s plan, so do it God’s way in the first place, and life will be so much easier. God bless you all. Glory be to God forever and ever. Amen.
